Avalanche warning for region Indre Troms Tuesday 04.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avalanches can be triggered in fresh storm slabs. Persistent weak layers have recently been hard to trigger, but this might have changed due to wind loading of the snowpack the last days. Avoid avalanche terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 3. January 2022

Mountain weather

Monday 3. January 2022

3-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -16 °C to -11 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 4. January 2022

2-3 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -19 °C to -12 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
